The Ekiti Citizenship and Governance Centre (ECGC) has called on former Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, to stop grandstanding and address the very serious question of mismanaging the 25 billion bond and the 5 billon loan he took while at the helms of affairs in the state.

Fayemi and the incumbent government of Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have locked horns over allegation of mismanagement of the 25 billion naira bond which is claimed to have plunged the state into heavy financial mess

In a statement released in Ado by its Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Ogundele, the group said Fayemi cannot continue to wish away those allegations without making substantive responses

“We read the recent interview granted by Fayemi in The Nation and his response to the question of mismanaging 25 billion bond and the 5 billion loan he took at the very wee hours of his government leaves much room for suspicions.

“This is so much so that for over a year Fayemis response to those serious issues have been dismissive and bereft of concrete information. As critical stakeholders in the Ekiti project, we must say that Fayemi cannot continue to take Ekiti people for granted.

“We demand information, we need clarity. If Fayemi has nothing to hide he should come out openly and explain what he did with the funds he collected to mortgage Ekiti future. There is nothing to cheer for someone who inflicted 30 billion debt under a booming economy without nothing substantial to show for it”, Ogundele said.

The group lamented that most of the projects for which the bond and loan were collected were either non-existent or abandoned.

The group continued: “There are critical questions Fayemi must answer: On the bond where is the N2.5 billion meant for the construction of Ado Market? Who is the contractor that got N600million?

“We reject every attempt by Fayemi to make this a witch-hunt or political issue. This is about probity, accountability and good governance. Fayemi can no longer lay claim to those ideals when N30billion is hanging on his neck.

“We now have details of the people who shared the commission on the bond. We know of some women from Ekiti and Anambra who served as fronts to collect monies and acquire properties with Ekiti money. Time is running out for Fayemi, we will dig out all details and expose them to the world.”
