Eight persons have been confirmed dead in a road accident involving a fuel tanker and container-laden truck on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The fuel tanker was reportedly hit by the truck carrying a container thereby leading to an explosion of the tanker.
Passengers of the truck were said to have been burnt beyond recognition in the accident.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed the accident said the accident occurred at Onigari Village, close to the Foursquare Gospel Church camp at Ajebo, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“The tanker carrying 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit travelling was to Ibadan while the container-laden truck was coming from Ibadan when the accident occurred.
“The accident occurred at a point where the traffic had been diverted to a single lane.
“Eight persons have been confirmed dead in the inferno, they were burnt beyond recognition. The victims were those passengers in a container attached to the truck,” he said.
The incident was said to have been caused a gridlock on the Ajebo-Ogunmakin axis of the express road.
He, however, added that operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), State Fire Service and the Nigeria Police were on ground to manage the traffic, and remove the charred bodies and vehicles from the road.
