FUOYE To Commence Faculty Of Basic Medical Sciences

In its bit to ensure rapid growth and development at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, the Professor Kayode Soremekun led administration is set to commence the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences. This is in addition to the Faculties of Pharmacy and Law which are also in the pipeline.

According to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun, his administration is poised to giving quality and affordable education to all citizens of the country and beyond, adding that he will leave no stone unturned to ensure smooth research learning for staff and students as well as a harmonious working relationship between the management and all cadres of staff. Professor was speaking while receiving the report of the committee for the establishment of Faculty Basic Medical Science in the University Council Chambers today.

He thanked the Professor Bode Fakunle- led committee for a job well done assuring the efforts of the committee shall not go in vain as the report will be carefully studied for immediate implementation. He expressed his readiness to liaise with the necessary stakeholders such the National Universities commission and relevant Professional bodies to ensure a smooth take off of the proposed Faculty adding that he would go extra mile to provide all the needed Facilities for the takeoff.

Chairman of the committee, Professor Bode Fakunle thanked the University management for finding them worthy to undertake the task. He assured that the committee has done a thorough job in line with the terms of reference, while applauding members of the committee for their cooperation. He said the committee recommended Five Departments for the takeoff, viz: Anatomy, Physiology, physiotherapy, Nursing and Laboratory science, adding that the management should weigh its capacity if it was to start with the five Departments.

Fakunle also said though the committee has successfully delivered on its assignment, members were ready to supply any further guidance that could be required by the management in the course of the implementation. Other member of the committee included the Director University Medical Centre, Dr. Olawole Musbau; some Senior Lecturers from the Faculty of Science and Mr. Sunday Akinkunmi as the Secretary.

Since his assumption of duties in February, 2016 as the Vice chancellor, Professor Kayode Soremekun has added three more Faculties to the hitherto existing ones. These Faculties are; Management sciences, Education and Arts. It could be recalled that the management under Professor Kayode Soremekun, has earlier similar reports for the takeoff of the Faculties of Law and Pharmacy.

The Vice Chancellor was accompanied to the short but eventful ceremony by the school’s top management team: Deputy Vice Chancellor , Professor Abayomi Fasina; Acting Registrar, Oyeyimika Fasaki; Acting Bursar, Bolatito Akande and host of others.
FUOYE, established in 2011, now boasts of seven faculties, 49 academic Programmes and a Post Graduate School.
